STEPS ON APPLYING FOR ELECTRONIC SINGLE BUSINESS PERMIT

The electronic unified Single Business Permit is a system-generated license that is issued through the Mombasa e-services platform. The unified SBP represents a single business permit, fire certificate and dimensional signage, at one go. The three services have been combined to make it easier and convenient for a business to apply and pay for the named services.

There are several payment options provided for the clients through an electronic payment platform (such as M-PESA, RTGS, Local Bank Transfer, Cash Deposits at KCB and others). The County Government of Mombasa receives the payment in real-time and a permit is generated immediately.
Upon submission of the online SBP application form and payment of the requisite fees, the County Government of Mombasa officers can review, inspect and approve the submitted applications through the platform. The departments involved in the review and assessment of the applications include; the Department of Trade, Tourism and Investment and the Department of Finance and Economic

Planning for the SBP issuance, Outdoor Advertising section for the dimensional signage; and Fire section for fire certificate issuance both in the Department of Transport, Infrastructure & Public Works. Upon approval, both the SBP and the Fire Certificate are generated simultaneously and availed to the businesses electronically for downloading and printing.

All registered businesses, operating from permanent/temporary premises, including small and micro enterprises, must comply with SBP requirements including: payment of assessed SBP permit fees, operating from habitable and approved building structures, ensuring public health and safety and operating in such a way that protects and safeguards the environment. All businesses are expected to pay for the dimensional signage as part of the SBP based on the type of signage they have on their premises.
